Kienholz - The Hoerengracht

starting 20 march

On 20 March 2010, Amsterdam Historical Museum (AHM) launches a presentation of one of the most extraordinary works of art of the twentieth century: The Hoerengracht. The Sixties Now!

The Sixties NOW! is the theme of a six-month programme of exhibitions and activities at Amsterdam Historical Museum offering a retrospective look at the 1960s. This was the decade of rock 'n roll, Provo agitators and the advent of the hippies, culminating in the revolutionary year of 1969. It was then that successive protests rocked the foundations of Amsterdam's established order and transformed Dutch society beyond recognition. The Sixties NOW! reveals the astonishing impact of these momentous events.

Two major exhibitions (October 5, 2009 until February 7, 2010) - Theatre After Tomato and Ruigoord: Artists' Haven - and various minor presentations such as Maagdenhuis Occupation '69 with photos by Paul van Riel and Miniskirt, chart the theme to the end of that momentous decade and show how the events that took place then have reverberated in the forty years since - right up to the present day.
